Important Message

A Message from Fr. Mike and Fr. Brian
(from May 19, 2013 Bulletin)

Fr. Mike and Fr. Brian

Approximately one month ago Fr. Michael was notified that he was up for a new assignment in the Archdiocese of Boston. This is rather shocking to all as he has been such a staple here at the parish as well as in the City of Lynn. However we have seen that there are many changes at the churches in Lynn beginning three years ago with our own Msgr. Garrity who left after 18 years and now with the departures of Fr. Derrane at Sacred Heart and Fr. Rossi at St. Pius. Out of concern for Fr. Mike we have been in an ongoing discussion with the archdiocese to see
if there would be any other options.

We have determined that the best path to take at this time is for Fr. Mike to finally seek the temporary health leave that he so desperately needs. This will allow him to receive the necessary care for those painful knees and shoulders and other joints that are in need of repair. It will also allow him to take the needed time off to help him fully recover from the
effects of his illness last year.

In this situation and to assure that Fr. Mike receives the proper rest and care, the diocese is requesting that he leave St. Mary’s. A number of options have been presented to him as to where he will live and that decision, which is Fr. Mike’s, has not yet been made. The diocese will continue to help him and be in conversation with him during his medical leave. When he is fully recovered they once again will explore with him his future, a new assignment or perhaps other options that may be available.

We all know that he has resisted taking this step in the past for very unselfish reasons. He has always thought of others before thinking of himself. So many have mentioned over this past year how he has slowed down and that finally it may be time for him to take care of himself. It is still difficult for him and for us to think what St. Mary’s will be without him but it is good to know that this faithful and dedicated man will get the
necessary care that he so greatly needs.

God brings us to many places on our journeys through life. We have been blessed at St. Mary’s to have been a part of Fr. Mike’s journey for so many years. And of course our journeys have been greatly enriched by his presence. But his journey like all of ours often takes different paths from time to time and that time has now arrived. We pray that God continues to bless Fr. Mike and walk with him on his journey and we ask the Lord to help us as we seek to continue the good work that he has
done for so many in our community.

God Bless,
Fr. Brian
Fr. Mike

PS – We are praying for a miracle!

Collaborative News

Fr. Brian

We await the arrival of Fr. Tamiru who has been assigned as a parochial vicar for St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart Parishes. He is coming to us from Abington and should be here on Tuesday. I know he looks forward to meeting you and hopefully over the next few weeks you will have a chance to introduce yourself and say hello. This past week Anthony Cusack, a seminarian entering his third year of theology arrived here at Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s. He is with us for eight weeks this summer and will be a part of our parishes in varying ways for the next two years.

Please keep your eyes on the bulletin as it is the place where I will keep you informed as to what is happening as we move for-ward with this new venture. I will be seeking your input and help as we transition into this pastoral plan. Much work lies ahead but with your help and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit we will all be strengthened in our relationship with God and in our efforts to bring others to know him too.

God Bless. Fr. Brian
